Chains hanging from an old loading dock door on the ground floor of the Sawyer Building, located in South Main urban village in the Near Southside. The Sawyer was in sad shape for many years - its ground floor had been bricked over, its brick and stone were filthy, its awnings gone, windows neglected, and vacant of all human activity.
It has now been restored to its original appearance and re-opened, with office and retail space on the ground floor and apartments upstairs. It helped start the current slowly-rolling revitalization of South Main.
The center of the courtyard here features an art installation covered in fake birds. Meanwhile, the concrete beams ringing the courtyard are covered with metal spikes to prevent real birds from nesting there. Taken with an iPhone 4.
