1. Day three at SXSW.

The day was full of music (and walking, and good food). For the highlight, though, I had to take the opportunity to see a band for the second time - that’s right, I saw Mary Timony’s new band, Ex Hex, again.

They performed at the KEXP show at Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop downtown. They rocked just as hard, if not harder, than they did on day one at Waterloo. Mary was absolutely destroying it on the guitar, and Betsy and Laura were once again a phenomenal rhythm section. If anything, the vocals were a bit more prominent here than at Waterloo, which is fine by me - I love Mary’s (and Betsy’s!) voice, and of course I totally love Mary’s lyrics, as always.

After being fortunate enough to see Ex Hex twice in one weekend, I am unreservedly in love with this band. Mary’s put together a monster of rock. I can’t wait to hear more from them.

  3. My band’s playing a show next week with a band fronted by the woman who voiced both Jem and Jerrica on, well, “Jem,” the cartoon from the ’80s.

That is incredibly random and incredibly cool.

  4. And, I got to see my talented friend Jude perform with her band!

  9. I am ready at last to begin booking for my reborn photography business at last. Local (and otherwise) bands, promoters, venues - I would love to work with you on band portraits/group shots, concert photography, etc.

I invite you to e-mail me or contact me through here to discuss options, rates, etc. And please, visit my portfolio and see if my work interests you.

  10. My band has two shows this weekend - the first, Friday, is in Fort Worth at the new Shipping & Receiving bar off South Main in the old Supreme Golf warehouse (which is now all fancy and new and filled with apartments and businesses).

We’re opening, and then our BFFs Lindby will close out the night. This show is FREE! and doors open at 8:00.

The second show is Saturday night in Dallas. We’ll be at City Tavern in downtown as part of a three-act show put on by the Artist Collective. Robbie Saunders will do a solo acoustic opener, then there’s us, and the night finishes up with the always-great Missing Sibling.

This show is $5 and starts at 9:00.
